By Katie Copple– The cold winter weather is finally here, and that means more time indoors watching movies and drinking got chocolate and less time outside staying active. With Thanksgiving and Christmas being major food holidays, it isn’t uncommon for individuals from all walks of life to find themselves gaining weight during the winter months. Below are some tips to help you keep of that winter weight.
Join a gym: Many gyms and fitness centers in the area offer special deals to drive up membership during the winter months. Look around for gyms in your area and compare prices. The local YMCA runs an 8-week membership special for $39, which includes two pools, a large fitness center and a gym. One of the good things about joining during this time of the year is that there are multiple new members who are just as lost and confused as you are. Feel free to ask questions and you will feel right at home in no time. Don’t have time for the gym? A simple at home workout will help you stay on track as well this holiday season.
Drink Lots of Water:
To avoid over-stuffing yourself this holiday season, drink a glass of water before each big meal. This will help you feel fuller faster which means you will eat less. Just think, if you eat less, that means you will have more leftovers for later! Remember to pace yourself and don’t overdo it on the pumpkin pie.
Keep Tempting Food Out of Reach:
That bowl of candy that you have sitting out from Halloween? PUT IT AWAY!!! It’s okay to reward yourself with a Snickers bar every once in a while but if you find yourself eating a handful of the bite size ones every day, its time to put them out of sight. Empty calories like candy and soda make it easy to pack on the pounds during the winter months. Moderation is key for sugary treats.
