Paul Johnson: StuGov President

Paul JohnsonBy Diane Nguyen–Paul Philip Johnson, Jr., a senior double major in International Affairs and Mass Communications, is your Student Government President.

“A brief summary of my job is pretty much being a voice of the students,” Johnson said.

Taking student concerns to the front office of the college and making sure those concerns are considered all fall to the President. Because in the end, it is all about the students.

His committee is the special projects committee, which looks at big ideas and programs. Paul says, “We just started this committee a couple years ago because we get ‘big ideas,’ but we don’t want to burden the other committees with them. So, the president’s committee is the special projects committee.”

One thing that has been considered is a sand volleyball court on campus. A plan Paul has for the year is ‘Teacher Appreciation Week’ at the end of the semester.

For this year, Johnson wants “to keep the Student Government growth going and to do all the things that we’ve done last year, learn from our mistakes and do better, make the Student Government better.”

Paul would also like to bring his own style of leadership to student government. “I like to keep things energetic and make things fun,” he said.

He believes in learning while having fun and likes an interactive style of leadership. He is trying his best for the students to feel like their voice is being heard and that their suggestions and concerns are being taken seriously.

His main thought on the job is, “So far so good.” Still in the early part of the year, “The job gets a little busy sometimes, but I’m enjoying it.” He’s excited to start the year off with a positive senate.

As energetic as Johnson is inside he’s just as energetic outside. Being an energetic person he loves all types of sports especially running and Ultimate Frisbee. Some other hobbies of his include singing and playing sporty video games.
