By Jenni Beaver– One of the first things that most people who have toured or attended Morningside College notice is the gorgeous campus. The trees are full and beautiful. There are flowers decorating the green space. The historical buildings add a touch of classic elegance, and the overall view is breathtaking.
Who wouldn’t want to sit outside by the fountain and listen to the water splash around? It sounds like a scenario straight from the silver screen. However, here in the Midwest, we have this little thing called winter. So, when the snow covers the ground, the fountain stops running, the leaves fall from the trees, and the air burns our cheeks, where are we supposed to claim as our happy place?
Fortunately for students, Morningside has given us this truly wonderful place called the Spoonholder. Coffee. Pastries. A great place to study or just hang out. It’s the catchall spot for students, teachers, and faculty from all across campus.
As a result of construction, the Spoonholder was closed for the summer and the first few weeks of the fall semester. It was a nightmare for teachers and students alike. Where were teachers supposed to grade papers or hold conferences with students? Where were students supposed to get their coffee and study? Things weren’t as they should have been.
Luckily for everyone involved, the Spoonholder is open, crowded with people, and back to feeling like home. Familiar faces surround me, and I am enveloped in, as cliché as it may sound, my Morningside happy place.
If you’re looking for the perfect spot on campus, come to the Learning Center, grab yourself a cup of coffee, and enjoy yourself!
This school year has officially started out on a positive note.
Until next time,
Jenni B.
