By Channing Pick–Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been on TV for years, but just recently gained the attention of college students across the Morningside campus.
SVU is not just your average “procedural,” with cops catching the bad guy. It shows the process of events in which the crimes occur and a suspect is sentenced.
The show normally opens with a brief description/play of what occurred to the victim. Whether they were raped or murdered, the plot proceeds to interviewing witnesses and family and friends of the victim. By this point the detectives have a hunch of who did it, how it was done, and other information on the crime.
They arrest their suspect and bring him into questioning. The show usually ends in a court with the judge ordering the sentence or the jury determining the verdict of innocent or guilty.
Either way, it has students buzzing. From posts on Facebook to tweets on Twitter students are interested. Music major Zach Richarson says, “That show is the bomb!”
Others go more in depth about their joy of SVU. “I like the action and it has a nice story line that keeps me going. I just seem to lose time while watching it,” said computer science major Zach Schroeder.
To jump on this band wagon, tune into USA on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
