Oz: The Great and Powerful review

By Michael Lewis — In a world where magic and evil rule the land, a prophecy tells of a wondrous man who comes to save the helpless people of Oz.

This may sound familiar, but this film comes with a slightly different twist. The American fairy tale “The Wizard of Oz” tells a story of a young lady, but nothing about an “innocent man.”

Even the well-known musical “Wicked” doesn’t mention a man who helps save the people of Oz. In this fairy tale,  “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” James Franco, the con-artist known as Oz, finds himself in a far off world and agrees to kill an evil witch with the help of the village people.

This journey gives us the background on how Oz becomes the wonderful wizard. Beautiful landscapes and heartfelt music carries viewers away as Oz meets his fellow helpers Finley (Zack Braff), China Girl (Joey King) and the rest of the gang before they use wonder and awe to run the Wicked Witch out of the city.

This magical journey is rated PG, was given 7 stars, and has earned its spot next to its sister production “Wicked” and the American favorite, “The Wizard of Oz.” This is a highly suggested movie for anyone looking for a story that truly has it all.
