By Claire DeRoin–With their win on Saturday, the Mustang football team will travel to Rome, GA, to play in the NAIA finals on Thursday, December 13, at 5:30. This poses a dilemma for some athletes and student fans: to travel across the country to watch the game, or to stay and study for their finals week?
A campus-wide e-mail sent from Dean William Deeds states that the Office of Academic Affairs is making a change to its rules in honor of the championship game. While usually professors have no control over the finals schedule, this year professors will be allowed to choose whether they want to adjust their finals to accommodate students wanting to travel to Georgia.
First and foremost, however, “the schedule of final exams is not being modified as a result of the football championship game,” Dean Deeds announced.
However, an option for faculty is to have proctored exams in the UPS Auditorium. In this case, a monitor would be present in the auditorium while students have a two-hour period to complete their final for their specific class. “Students from different classes would each be working on the final exam for their specific class at the same time in the same room,” Dean Deeds wrote.
The schedule and list of available proctored exams will be available as soon as it is finalized.
An on-campus viewing event will be held at a location to be announced. A Morningside ID is required for admittance.
