Wellness week wrap-up

By Paige Potter—

Morningside had a lot of fun activities for students to do this past week. MAC sponsored “Wellness Week” with different activities planned for each day.

On Monday night, Kira Sabin, a dating coach, came and talked to 71 students in Yockey about different things to put up with in relationships. She touched on subjects such as how your significant other treats you, having self-respect for yourself, and a big point she made was having communication.

MAC had around 455 students come in Yockey between 11:00 A.M and 3:00 P.M. for extreme pet therapy on Tuesday.  Mindy the Monkey, an alligator, a snake, a chinchilla, a naked mole rat, a possum, a tarantula, and a skunk were the different exotic animals there. The exotic animals seemed to be a huge hit with the students who went to visit them.

Wednesday night, speaker C.L. Lindsey, came to talk to 23 students about how to use Facebook and Twitter properly.

On Thursday during the lunch hour MAC gave away water bottles with a mini challenge with students having to do a push up or jumping jack.  They gave away 300 water bottles in 50 minutes.  At 8:00 P.M., CHACHA, the wellness group, hosted bingo in Yockey. 151 students showed up to play. The students were able to win prizes throughout the night. The grand prize was a 32” flat screen TV won by Amanda LaCour when she got a black out.

The week was rounded up with hypnotist Chris Jones in Eppley Auditorium Friday night.  With 217 filling the auditorium and many being hypnotized, it was entertainment for the whole crowd.

Overall, “Wellness Week” was a success for all. Julie Pitel, advisor of MAC said, “I think Wellness Week was awesome. We had good turn outs for everything.”  With a variety of activities, students were entertained all week long.
