Romney speaks in NW Iowa

By Meghanne Adams–
Over a thousand people gathered to listen to Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney during his visit to Northwestern College in Orange City Friday.

A lot of familiar faces joined Romney to address the crowd, including Morningside professor Sam Clovis, who addressed the importance of individual liberty. Also, Governor Terry Branstad and Congressman Steve King preceded Romney. Governor Branstad asked the crowd, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

Romney addressed President Obama’s DNC speech, arguing that all we heard were new promises he won’t be able to be kept. The last four years have pitted Americans against each other and created a divide. Romney believes the story of America has been many people becoming one, people coming together. He will put an end to this divisiveness, and do anything in his power to unite the people again.

Romney briefly laid out his plans for success if he were to become the next President. “America is about to come roaring back,” noted Romney.

He has five main objectives to his plan that will get the economy going. These include taking full advantage of our energy resources, taking advantage of trade opportunity, making sure workers have the skills for the jobs of today, alongside making sure young people have the skills for the jobs of tomorrow. Romney will make sure schools put students first. Also, Romney will put an end to excessive spending that is “killing the American dream for the future generations.” He plans to help small businesses, and get Americans back to work.

Romney spoke of a smaller government that works for the people, instead of a government that is too big and crushes the dreams of Americans.
