By Maron Guimarães – Winter in Sioux City is no small thing, and Morningside students know it. Between the icy sidewalks, freezing winds, and surprise snowfalls, getting through the season takes prep.
The key to surviving the cold starts with dressing smart (which means more than shorts and a hoodie). Layering is your best friend, and a solid pair of waterproof boots can save you from biffing it outside Olsen or Dimmit. Don’t forget gloves, a hat, and a thick coat. It may sound overkill, but the Sioux City wind will find any weak spot you leave uncovered.
When it’s too cold to stay outside, the campus offers plenty of cozy spots to warm up. Buck’s and Spoonholder are student staple spots for hot drinks and quiet study time between classes.
Your dorm or apartment is going to become your comfort zone during these months, so make it cozy! And when the snow piles up, don’t fight it, have fun with it! Go sledding, take a late-night walk through campus, or just enjoy the peaceful calm that comes with the snow.
Sioux City winters might be tough, but they’re also a part of what makes Morningside life memorable. So grab your coffee and face the cold. Survive one winter here, and you can handle just about anything.
