KMSC hosts “Community Connection’

by Payton Miller–Morningside College radio, also known as KMSC, is set to host another community connections event here at Morningside University.

The event will take place on Wednesday, March 30th at 9 am. The event will be hosted entirely by the student DJs working at the radio station regularly. The DJs plan to set up remotely outside the cafeteria at the Olsen student center.

Community connections are an event that KMSC has hosted for some years now. The goal of the event is to help non-profit organizations throughout Sioux City gain further exposure and awareness. Students Dj’s will be interviewing each organization and giving them a chance to spread the word about what is happening locally.

Caden Schulte, one of KMSC’s five student directors, has participated in the event for the past two years.

“It’s such a great event because it not only allows us to practice these skills and simulate what it would be like to interview at a commercial radio station, but it also lets non-profits spread their name around not only the campus but also the community,” Caden said of the event.

The event is mutually beneficial to both KMSC and the organizations featured at the event. Morningside prides itself on exposing its students to real-life situations they may see after they graduate college and move on with their professional careers. Events like this prepare KMSC’s student DJs for interviews and live remote broadcasting in their future careers.

The event is scheduled to go on from 9 am to 3:30 pm and will feature fifteen different non-profit organizations in the Siouxland area including but not limited to the foodbank, the Mary J. Treglia Community House, Camp High hopes, and many more.

Each organization is given a 30-minute time slot to speak with a student DJ and spread the word about what they are doing and why not only Morningside students should care, but also who the Sioux City community should.

Caleb Lubbers, KMSC’s student station manager is looking forward to the event. “It’s an awesome way that we here at Morningside get to give back to our community.”

Listeners can tune in to KMSC 92.9 on Wednesday, March 30th to learn more about the non-profits of Siouxland.
