The men arrived in Mobile, Alabama, Feb. 20 to take part in the University of Mobile Invitational.  They were able to warm up on the world renowned RTJ par three golf course, and then play a practice round on the Crossings Course in the afternoon.

Coach Nick Wanderscheid said, “It was a windy morning on a tough golf course for the first day of the invitational, which was proved by the men’s scores. However, they were still in good spirits going into their second round in the afternoon.” The men were able to pick it up for the second round with a 20-shot improvement, landing them eighth place.

The second day the men continued to persevere and ended in ninth place overall, out of 14 teams. Wandersheid said: “They fought against tough competition and were able to knock the winter rust off.”

They are already looking forward to their next match, the Point University Skyhawks Invitational in Southern Georgia on March 8.

The women’s golf team took a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for their first tournament of 2022. They were able to participate in the Showdown at Legends hosted by Lindsey Wilson College on February 28 and March 1.

The women were also challenged with a very tough course, which was shown by their scores. Sophomore Sofia Castelan, however, had a very good first 9 holes, with 2 birdies.

The second day continued to play tough for the girls, but they went out with a positive attitude and did well on some holes. Overall, it was a tough run and the Mustangs struggled on a course that they were unfamiliar with, but they are ready to bounce back in future meets.

The women ended the tournament in 8th place out 11.

Both teams had some great success down South and are excited to continue to improve as the season goes on.
