Full Capacity Coffeehouse

by Morgan Roberts-Businesses have shifted back to full capacity seating post proclamation made by Governor Kim Reynolds.

There has been controversy following the lifted ban, but looking from the perspective of a college student the lift is nothing short of a miracle.

Students of Morningside have the luxury of in-person classes and access to study centers around campus, but even then, there needs to be a change of scenery. Coffeehouses are the main alternative locations for students to go for study sessions.

Places like cafes are go to for students from nursing students with daunting study hours to business majors working on projects to present.

Senior business major Payton Boer said, “With my capstone classes and extra work needed for my minors, I have multiple papers I’m writing. I can’t just sit in my room and do that. It’s the change of scenery that coffee shops give me so I feel fresh and ready to focus on my work.”

Most of the time, students aren’t going to coffee shops for a latte. They go for a place to do their homework with coffee being that added bonus.

Erin Thomas, a professor of American University wrote an article saying, “Research shows that coffee shop ambiance increases creativity, alertness, and ability to learn.”

Junior education student, Jenna Dirkx said, “I’m not a big coffee drinker. I like to go to cafes with my friends so we can enjoy each other’s company, while simultaneously doing our work in a cute looking place. Going to the library is nice and all, but it just doesn’t have that vibe a cute coffee shop brings.”

The lifted ban gives college students that opportunity to study in a more aesthetic atmosphere that coffee shops in the area bring. You get coffee, a creative ambiance, and new scenery outside of your campus window.
