Broncos shock Mustangs in GPAC Tournament

by Jonathan Covert–In a matchup the Mustang men swept during the regular season, a threepeat was not meant to be Wednesday night against Hastings. Hastings charged out against Morningside to take home an upset 84-80 win.

The Mustangs went up 15-6 at the start of the game, but that would be the biggest lead the team got. The Broncos would come back to take the lead 30-29 later in the half. The first half ended on a 17-13 run by the Broncos putting them up 47-42 at the break.

Hastings took their biggest lead of the game 50-42 at the start of the second half before the Mustangs stormed back to take the lead 53-52. The Mustangs pushed ahead to a four-point lead, but again the Broncos surged to a 63-61 lead.

A historic win as Hastings became the second team to beat a one seed in GPAC history; the last one-seed upset happened in 2009.

The Mustang men will now wait to see their seed in the upcoming NAIA Division II National Tournament which will be held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The tournament takes place March 11-17 in the Sanford Pentagon.
