by Mari Pizzini – Mackenzie “Kiki” Bennett has been chosen as January’s Student of the Month. The college’s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) cast their votes in Bennett’s favor at their January 19 meeting.
Student of the Month is awarded to a Morningside student who shows dedication to the college through his/her involvement both on campus and off. Students are nominated by peers in ODK and cannot be a member of the chapter.
Bennett is a second-year student double majoring in Mass Communication and Spanish. Though active in multiple organizations on campus, Bennett said that her involvement in track and field is her most time-consuming commitment.
“It’s [track and field] a big part of my life. I spend hours of my week training to be able to compete,” she said.
She also said her position as Vice President of Student Government plays a huge role in her campus involvement.
“Through Student Government I have gotten to meet many people and have had many opportunities for both leadership and growth.”
Off campus, Bennett was recently promoted within Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign.
Morningside encourages student participation across campus, but Bennett recognizes that getting involved isn’t always an easy task.
“If you have a passion for something,” Bennett said, “go for it and don’t care what people think. I’ve always taken on so much that I think I can’t handle it, but it always ends up working out in the end.”
