Sioux City Plans On Helping Syrian Refugees

Sioux City, IA- With the recent terror attacks in Paris, Syrian refugees coming to the United States have been an issue.

According to KTIV, 31 governors across the country have expressed their feelings toward bringing the refugees into the states.

“We don’t want to make the mistake the Europeans did of bringing a bunch of refugees with embedded Islamic militants among them that are going to do damage in our country,” said Iowa Governor Terry Branstad.

Mary J. Treglia Community House, in Sioux City, helps immigrants that come from other nations to adapt to the communities around the Siouxland area. They are willing to help any Syrian refugee that comes for assistance.

Ceremony for Fallen Firefighters

(Sioux City, IA)— The Sioux City Fire Department displayed a ceremony on Friday, October 9th, for those who were firefighters and died in the line of duty. Through the years, Sioux City has lost twelve firefighters.

This ceremony was for any person who faced any fire incidents. “We don’t want add anymore names to this memorial, it’s important that we live each day like it’s our last and not forget those that went ahead of us,” said Capt. Johnson. KTIV

Outside of the firefighters memorial, over fifty Siouxlanders came together to support and honor those who were heroes to the Sioux City area.

Harrisburg Shooting

(Canton, SD)— The male student who shot Harrisburg principal, Kevin Lein Wednesday morning, has been recently charged in adult court.

Mason T. Buhl, a sixteen year old from Sioux Falls, will face charges of attempted murder and commission of a felony with a firearm. Buhl has up to twenty-five years in prison or a $50,000 fine according to Argus Leader.

“This was an event that was stopped, and it was stopped by some heroic actions. That’s what we want to focus on here today.” Lincoln County State’s Attorney Tom Wollman stated.

Judge Bradley Zell set a no bond for Buhl for the sake of his safety and safety of the public. Buhl’s hearing is set for October 13.
