Britney Griner freed from Russia

This article about the release of Britney Griner. Griner was locked up in Russia for the last 10 months due to her breaking some weed laws in Russia. In order for her release to be granted, President Biden had to send Russia back one of their notorious Russian arms dealers Viktor Bout.

This is a very controversial release, because of the opportunity to bring home Marine Paul Whelan, who has been stuck in Russia for the last four years.

This article is news because it talks about something very major happening within our country. Especially with a country that we are currently in a war in.

I do think the article is too long, we do not need to know the whole background of Britney Griner. but I understand because this target audience is a little different than their other articles. Most of their audience is for just sports fans, but there will be many people looking at this article that are just interested in politics. So they had to give background for the person.

Rough Draft Article

If George Davey could describe his life in one phrase, he would describe it as an wild experience.

Davey was not the nicest kid in the room when he was a kid. He hated school and did whatever it took for him to get out of the classroom. But at the age of 14, he found something that took all the distractions away from him, and that was his love of basketball.

Davey moved away from his hometown in London, to attend one of the best high schools in England in Southhampton, to focus on basketball. Doing this gave George the mindset, that he can do something for the rest of his life. So he set his sights on bigger dreams, and that was America.

Deshaun Watson puts his focus on football

This article is about a press conference Deshaun Watson had regarding his first game. Deshaun had to miss the first 11 games of the season because of being accused of sexual misconduct by 21 different girls. This week he will play his first game back against his old team. He said this about the situation, “But with my legal team and my clinical team, there’s only football questions I can really address at this time.”

I do not believe this is new because this situation has already been played out and punishments and everything have already been handed out. Even if people do not agree with the punishment, I do not think it is still news.

This audience is football fans, but also people all over America. Because this was an NFL star that was involved in a huge sexual misconduct scandal, and who will still not say he has done it.

Hardworking runs in the family

Ethan Alfers has only been known to work hard throughout his whole life. It is one thing the man prides himself on. Alfers came from a home where his dad taught him the only way in life to get anywhere is through hard work. Ethan applied it to everything, especially his athletics.

Alfers has brought this way of life to the basketball court. After he did not see the court much last basketball season, he worked hard this last spring and summer on his jumper and body and saw much improvement. This all paid off for him when the Morningside Men’s JV basketball team was losing to Dakota Wesleyan. The team needed a spark off the bench, and Alfers delivered.

He scored 10 points in a 5-minute stint, helping them come back to win the game. Alfers said this about his performance, ” I have to thank my dad, he always ingrained in me that hard work always pays off, and it paid off this game.”

Pr news

This story is about subway making a new footlong cookie.

The audience is subway lovers and all cookie lovers. especially because subway is the highest-selling cookie fast-food restaurant. The benefit for the reader is taking on the new deal before it’s gone, which is most likely after Christmas time. The benefits of the company are that they are letting the public know about this new menu item. This is different than other stories we have read because it is almost an advertisement for a product, not an actual news story. I would not run this story.

Feature Story

I read this story about an art professor here at Morningside creating a piece of art for the LSU vet school.

I believe this is news because this would be a first for the school and something huge for the art department and the school as a whole. This story’s potential audience is people interested in Morningside art or Morningside school news. The purpose of this story is to show off one of Morningside’s best artists, as she performs a historic feat for the university. The benefits of this story are learning more about the university art program, and all the talent from it. Morningside gains the attention of people looking at the story, or people looking to come to Morningside and see this story might have more persuasion to come here.

Morningside Men’s basketball

Morningside Men’s basketball looks to bounce back from a tough season last year, with one of the tougher nonconference stretches in program history.

The Mustangs went 14-12 last season, after being projected to win the GPAC, they ended up not being able to make the national tournament. With two of their best players graduating, Trey Brown and Zach Imig, the Mustangs look to make a name for themselves and get back on top of the GPAC.

No other better way to do this than playing the best of the best. That is exactly what they are doing. The Mustangs will play the 7th-ranked Carroll and the 8th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan in the Small College Basketball Classic. But it does not stop there for the Mustangs, because they also play the D2 national champions Northwest Missouri State a week later.

Head Coach Trent Miller says this about the tough stretch during the season, “-“

It will be interesting to see how the Mustangs do on this stretch, and they try to get things back on track.

Elon Musk and Twitter

Elon Musk is making his impact on Twitter very early.

Within the week of officially taking over Twitter and Twitter headquarters, Elon has already made significant changes throughout the app. One of the changes is anybody on the app can get verified. It is now only 8 dollars a month to have a verification mark on the app.

This resulted in many major accounts being taken seriously by many users but were just parody accounts.

Because of this Musk has taken action to make sure people are able to tell the difference between a parody account and a real account. He has done this by making “real” verified accounts have double verfications symbols and so on.

Charlie Fletcher, who has been an avid twitter user had this to say on the topic “-“

Telsa stockholders are worried about the current state of the company.

Telsa investors are scared because of the current recession within the company. Once being valued within the trillion-dollar club, now worth around 700 billion.

Elon Musk is telling investors not to fret, as they still intend to make the goals they have predicted in the past. Musk tweeted out saying, I will not let you down, no matter what it takes. New York Times reported that Telsa sold roughly 20,000 fewer cars than they made last quarter.

Dan Wubbena who is a holder of a Telsa share has this to say about the company, “-“

NBA player deal with Nike likely Over

Brooklyn Nets Superstar Kyrie Irving’s Nike shoe deal was suspended and Nike might terminate the deal altogether.

This happens after Irving was suspended by the Nets for his anti-semantic post on Twitter, which he has since deleted. In the tweet, he was referencing a movie that has Holocaust denial in the movie and other theories about Jews, according to ESPN.

Nike has canceled the release of Irving’s upcoming shoe with the brand and sees the future with Irving going to be hard to repair. Nike’s Phil Knight said this about the Irving situation, “I would doubt that we go back”. He also said, “Kyrie stepped over the line”.

It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds between Irving and Nike.

I believe this is news because this is a player that reflects the sport of basketball, because of how good he is as a player. So because of him saying these comments, there has been a lot of backlash against him. So this news is just another wave of something that has came from his comments.

The intended audience is basketball fans, and fans of all sports.

Stick to football, not politics

With the World Cup coming up this month, the FIFA president informed the press to try to keep this World Cup about football and not politics.

This World Cup has been one the most controversial World Cups to have ever taken place. Because of this many teams have committed to wearing heart-shaped arm bands or doing something to stand against the rules of FIFA.

With many other issues that FIFA pushed aside, they want to remind the fans and visitors of the World Cup, that they are there to watch football, not judge the morality of others.

I believe this is not news, because it is not something new for FIFA to make scummy decisions. FIFA is known for being a corrupt organization and this is just another example.

The audience for this article is soccer fans, but all sports fans because the World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the entire world.
