A Glow of Pleasurable Excitement

I had never even considered attire to be a major issue of sports until I read this article because it isn’t a big issue for our time. I hadn’t thought about how women in the 19th century would have rode bicycles in those long skirts. And a corset? Forget about it. Also, maneuverability is of such importance in every sport imaginable that the way women would have been expected to dress is just plain ridiculous. I found it interesting how there were journals and articles designed to inform women on how to participate in, dress for, and improve themselves in certain sports. We have known how to play these sports and what to wear for them since we were little, but back then, everything was just breaking the horizon. I thought the author seemed very knowledgable on the subject and made some very good points.

“Sportswomanship”

I found great difficulty in finding the overall motive for this article. I think that the author made some good points as far as how women have been perceived in sports throughout the years. However, I feel that the information provided about what sportswomanship is compared to sportsmanship was irrelevant. The most recent resource that was sited in the article was from 2001, that is over a decade ago. When they are talking about what sportsmanship means versus sportswomanship I couldn’t help but think that things are looked at differently now. I was also made upset when the author talked about how women in sports were influenced into thinking less about sportsmanship than winning by male coaches. I know of plenty collegiate female coaches who value winning just as much as any male coach of any sport that I have ever met. It doesn’t matter whether you are coached my a man or a woman, winning is always going to be important because if they don’t win, their job is in jeopardy.

To Mr. Booth

Dear Mr. Booth,

I really enjoyed reading this article! I thought that everything you said was primarily true. I also agreed with the reasons that you gave for the problems with writing as I have experienced some of the very same things that you described over my years of schooling. The only issue is that we have no solutions for the problem. Everyone hates english as a kid. And if they don’t then they soon will because no one teaches us that differing opinions are okay until we at least hit high school. As soon as one kid tells another that the english lesson for the day is completely boring then the other is instantly heading into that class with bad expectations. If we can figure out how to keep young people interested in the papers that they write, everyone would benefit. The teachers, the students, and the entire american schooling system.

Support

Every reader has a different opinion on things and they will react differently to different approaches. For example, calling for action will cause some readers to be persuaded towards your side while others will be completely against you.

Argument

Academic argument is presenting two sides of a problem and then proving which you think is correct using different facts, opinions, ect…

When most people think of argument they think of two people yelling back and forth untill one makes their point to the other. In actuality, it is similar to a debate with certain “boundries” that don’t get crossed.

Response to Expectations and Questions

All of my expectations thus far have been met.

As for my questions…

What is this year going to be like? Fun
How do I manage my time properly? Make schedules and follow them.
How can I help my fellow classmates? Participate in group discussions
What should I get involved in? Anything you want to try.
How many activities should I get involved in? As many as you can handle.
What do I do if a teacher is being unfair to me or someone else? Talk to them personally and then go to your advisor.
How do I know who to trust? Give them the benefit of the doubt.
How many parties do I go to? That depends, do you have your homework done? If not, then only one.
Who is reading my blog? No one.

Revising vs. Editing

Revising is looking at the reorganization, cutting, and moving around of ideas within your paper. Editing is when you look past all the ideas of purpose, audience, and topic and look at sentence structure and word choice within your paper.

Knowing this, I can better evaluate my own papers as well as other’s papers within the class.

Major

I want to get a degree in Engineering Physics. I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to be an engineer. I love everything that it entails. I plan to become an Acoustical Engineer. Engineering Physics provides such a wide variety of job opportunities that I am also planning to minor in Spanish and in Music.

College life

I’ve learned how to enjoy the free time that i have now that I have been in college for a while. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and have learned that no matter what, something will always happen to make you second guess a decision. Like the clutch going out of my new car two months after I bought it for example.

One thing that effects the college and classroom experience is the different types of instructors. Some are laid back while others are up tight and all will make you work. Another is the types of friends that you have. Some people are great at giving advise while others are just fun to hang out with.

Identity

Some different identities that I have and let show during the week are the responsible coworker, the cool guy friend, the good boyfriend, and the good student.

These all come together to show the “version” of me that I want people to see. When I am in class I want the teacher and other students to think that I am smart but when I am hanging with the guys I want them to think I am fun to hang out with.
