U.S. Open Golf Champion

Last Sunday, Bryson DeChambeau won the 2020 United States Open Golf Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club. DeChambeau was the only player in the field to finish his final round under par, which boosted his lead. His nearest competitor, Matt Wolf would be 6 strokes behind finishing in second place.

DeChambeau said he brought a new mindset to the game when he started his first round on Thursday. His goal was to hit the ball off the tee as hard as he could, he didn’t care where it landed. His method was to have the closest second shot, and it worked.

The stout 6 foot 3 inch frame of Bryson drove the ball on average 325 yards, a whole 20 yards further than any golfer. This asset was very beneficial to him as he beat the course everyone was talking about.

His extreme weigh lifting program and diet has lead him to a higher velocity of his club before he hits the ball. This makes the exit speed of the golf ball over 200 mph, which is obsurd for a PGA player.

He said, “I think I’m making people think differently of the game of golf now”. He believes that if you can drive the ball farther, you have a better chance of winning; and it showed.

The interesting thing about Winged Foot Golf Course is the extreme difficulty of the course. The greens long and very fast, while the rough outside of the fairway measured a tall 5 inches in some spots. When players would find the rough, it was very hard for them to get the ball out safely.

DeChambeau exceeded in all parts of his game throughout the week of play including his putting. DeChambeau made very difficult puts to keep the lead and made the shots that counted the most.

The audience of this article is mainly for people interested in golf. The event that DeChambeau just won is one of 5 major events in the PGA, making it a higher covered sporting event. Most sports fans were interested in who would win.

The lead is good, sticks to the point and the article carries on really well with how DeChambeau plays his game of golf. There isn’t a point of view for this article, which is pretty easy to understand.

This article was great and informative about the tournament and the winner himself, Bryson DeChambeau. I would have liked to have known who played well and who didn’t, doesn’t give me how Tiger or Phil played.

  1. Stout. I like that one. I would call him Husky. That’s another of my favorites.
The story uses beefy, which is definitely accurate.

I didn’t watch the early rounds, but Phil and Tiger didn’t seem to make the
cut. Phil may not have even been there.

    Nicely done.
