15 Dead horses as suspicious fire in Norfolk Downs Race track starts at Four o’clock this morning.
A day before the opening of the racing season, fire in a one-story barn where 25 horses were stabled caught fire.
Fire chief, Jim Connery said, “The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious. ”
An arson squad was called to the site as arson was the suspected cause of the burning wooden structure.
Dan Bucci, the track assistant manager stated: “It could have been of an incendiary nature because it started in the middle of the barn, not the end. The only heaters and electrical outlets were in the track rooms at the ends of the barns.”
Out of the twenty-five, ten horses managed to escape, two of them with their backs on fire.
The remains of the fire include several rows of wooden supports after the fire burned slowly until noon.
Albert Ramos watched the arson workers clean the area. “I love horses more than I do people. I feel like I want to cry,” he said.
I’m not sure what that first sentence is, but the second graf makes a decent lead. Just use active voice:
Fire destroyed a one-story barn where 25 horses were stabled, one day before the opening of the racing season.
OK on organization.
