Kristene Honomichl is among the athletes in track and xcountry, but at the NAIA Cross Country Championship, she has become a brutal opponent. Leading the GPAC Kristene came in 61st in the nation at nationals, and tends to stay within the top 5 of all her meets when shes running. However it wasn’t always like this, when interviewed about what it was like growing up her answers were a real head scratcher.

From a young age Kristine liked loved to be active outside but she was very involved with family. When asked what a typical day was like in the track stars life it was simple and to the point. “A typical day for me would’ve had to have been waking up early with my parents, sleeping in the car on the way to grandma’s. My mom would drop me off, have a cup of coffee with my grandma, I would eat cereal. We would wait for my grandpa to get up, if he wasn’t up already. Mom would talk to them and then take my older sister to school. I would drink coffee with my grandpa while watching the Nick Junior programs until it was time for grandma to put on the Price is Right. Between breakfast and the show I would either be outside playing with chalk or if i brought my bike over, or if it was cold I would color or annoy my grandpa. Also I learned how to play card games. The price is right usually meant it was lunch time and I would ask my grandma always for mac and cheese. It always tasted better when she made it and gave me a special spoon that I only ate from”. So from an early stage in life she was always on the run and with a cup of coffee. But it wasn’t always like this in the Honomichl household, Kristine Explained that her mom would come home at the same time every day. She was very caring but strict to and her sister. So her and her sister had a very adult life from a very young age, especially since her dad wasn’t around very much throughout the year due to farming in a different state. She stated that he was “raised with the mindset of a simple farmer, he grew up with 7 brothers so him having 2 daughters was hard for him” and that he had to understand to speak to them differently.

However everyone has a simple childhood but life took a turn far away from fairies and rainbows when she hit middle school Kristine took a huge liking in sports, but what really caught her eye was basketball. She described basketball as everything she ever wanted and more and was she in for a shock. Leading her small school basketball team kristene found herself in love with the sport of basketball quickly gaining eyes of recruiters as soon as she stepped on the high school court. After talking to several scouts and touring all across the nation Kristine fell in love with a small Morningside University in Sioux City Iowa, about 8 hours from home. When Kristine got to Morningside she quickly made a name for herself. After finding herself severely unhappy and at a depressive mindset the stud guard had to look elsewhere to let herself go. Kristine said that she was lost and needed to find herself again because shes young and in college, so she turned to track. the switch to track could have been one of the best decisions she could’ve made with little to no experience and full of energy Honomichl tool to long distance running and cross country, and in a matter of no time Kristine was dominating the GPAC on all levels.

Although, her time at morningside came to an end she found herself wanting a masters degree in psychology and landed herself at Dordt University who previously placed themselves at 8 in the nation for cross country and Track
