(2.17.17) By Mitch Kellogg – The returning Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tournament champion Morningside Mustangs open their this season this weekend as they head to Atchinson, Kansas as they play a four game set with Benedictine College. The Mustangs are hoping to build on their success from last season as they return thirteen seniors from last years squad, seven of them being starters.

The expectations for the Mustangs are high as they have been picked to win the GPAC and plan on a return trip to the NAIA National Tournament. Junior Ricky Mitchell summed up his teams attitude and expectations.

“Every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams, or get up and chase them.”

Getting up and chasing their dream is exactly what they’re doing, and that dream is the NAIA College World Series. The Mustangs will have a great power offense, an offense that broke nearly every offense record a season ago, as well as power on the mound. Losing only two pitchers from last year, the Mustangs will have both depth and experience on the mound this season and will look to fool GPAC hitters on the 2017 campaign.
