By Carter Gill – Morningside University’s Klinger-Neal Theatre received a major facelift this summer with help from the new partnership with LAMB Theatre and their generous $1 million donation. These renovations bring massive improvements for theatre goers and students alike.
Some of the biggest changes coming to Klinger-Neal are brand new state-of-the art technology, including lighting systems, sound equipment, wireless microphones, a massive video wall, scenic projectors, and a large 3D printer.
Junior Morningside theatre major Hope Russell is thrilled about all the new updates.
“Our lighting system is one of the most advanced in the region.” Russell said. “The screen we bought is probably my favorite, so far we’ve only used it for Mean Girls, but it took that show to the next level!”
This massive video wall is not only a great addition to Klinger-Neal but it will also be great for Eppley Auditorium. Morningside can now use this video wall during their annual Christmas at Morningside music concerts without needing to rent it from a separate company.
Russell was also very excited about the brand new 3D printer and the possibilities it opens up for the prop department.
“It’s big. We’ve used 3D prints for props before, but now we have a lot more options.” Russell said.
Along with the new technological updates, the facility itself received changes. New comfortable seating was shipped in and placed on top of new carpet. A ramp was placed at the entrance removing the need to step up to enter the building, making it much more accessible. Their handi-accessible seating area was also expanded.
The basement of Klinger-Neal is home to the prop-department and was completely reorganized over the summer. A large number of props, costumes, and set pieces were sorted through, many of which were discarded or donated if they were no longer needed.
Heath Weber, Dean of Visual and Performing Arts at Morningside University, is extremely grateful for the LAMB Theatre partnership and can’t wait for everyone to experience the new and improved Klinger-Neal Theatre.
“By upgrading the Klinger-Neal Theatre, we are creating a better environment that will directly impact student learning and significantly enrich the cultural landscape.” Weber said.
All of the new updates and additions to Klinger-Neal Theater will make a tremendous impact on both the arts at Morningside University and in the Sioux City area, making Klinger-Neal Theatre one of the finest theatres in the region.
