Athletes Get to Travel for Spring Break Tournaments

By Rachel Potter–There is no better way to spend your spring break than in the warm sun doing what you love.  Morningside College student athletes have the opportunity to compete in some of the southern parts of the US over spring break.

The men’s and women’s golf teams will spend their break in West Palm Beach, Florida. The softball team will be soaking up the sun in the Gulf Shores of Alabama. The baseball team will travel to California. The bowling team will not spend  week in the sun, but the men’s team and two individual women will compete in sectionals in Chicago, Illinois.

“This trip is a great experience for our team, it allows us to play some great teams so it mentally prepares us and also we get to see what we need to work on before the season starts and get closer as a team,” said sophomore golfer Myla Brown.

Traveling during spring break allows athletes to play in different tournaments without missing classes.  Each athlete is responsible for raising money to pay for their ticket for the trips. The athletes sell t-shirts, golf accessories, popcorn, Scentsies, and work the concession stand for other sporting events to name a few of the ways they fund raise.

Playing a sport at Morningside provides many benefits to the athlete’s life during college, and traveling to places they typically would not get to visit otherwise is just one of them.
