by Caleb Lubbers–After the Iowa Beef Industry Council announced the winner of its annual Iowa’s Best Burger Contest on Monday, Morningside students voiced their own opinions on where to get the best burger around Siouxland.
This year’s state winner came from the Marshalltown restaurant, the Flying Elbow. Marshalltown is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Sioux City.
Several students knew right away when asked what establishments had the best-tasting burgers.
“I really like Table 32,” said Sam Petersen, a senior. “They have a burger with an egg on it that is pretty solid.”
“The Wheelhouse Bar and Grill has the best quality burgers for their price in Sioux City,” sophomore Bryce Kremer said.
Some students preferred burgers from fast-food restaurants instead.
“Oh, that’s tough,” said Logan Feige, a sophomore. “Honestly, Culver’s has a pretty solid cheeseburger.”
“The Billy Boy Drive-Thru probably has the best burgers in town,” Brenick Birks-Hoppe, a sophomore, said. ”They have classic, juicy burgers with quality buns. Plus, their dip makes the experience and the experience would be incomplete without.”
Others, like junior Alex Freeman, wouldn’t spend a dime on a burger.
“I would just go home and have my dad grill a burger. There’s nothing better than a home-cooked meal,” Freeman said.
