App Review: The Simpsons: Tapped Out

index

By Kayla Perkins—The Simpsons is a show that has been around for many years and with its huge fan base has come many games. The Simpsons: Tapped Out is the newest game to come from the show’s popularity.

Tapped Out is a point and click game that allows its users to rebuild the Simpsons’ town of Springfield any way they choose to. A person can also use the characters to complete tasks and quests. Developed by EA Mobile and Fox Digital Entertainment, Tapped Out can be played by anyone, even those who are not fans of the show.

This app is available for Android and iOS and can be played on multiple devices if the user has an Origins account.

Tapped Out begins with a short series of comic panels showing the Springfield Nuclear Plant overheating and exploding, sending homes and businesses flying, and leaving behind a large plot of land, which is used to rebuild the city. Each building and decorations such as roads and trees can be placed wherever the player chooses.

The game uses various lines and references from the show to make the game funnier and more enjoyable for the fans.

I play Tapped Out, though I have never been a fan of the show and I can count the number of episodes I have seen on one hand. The game is very fun despite not being a fan of the show. The references the game makes are ones that are so popular that most people who are not fans of the show know them anyway.

The game is very open-ended. It lets its users basically do whatever they want. There is a downside to the game. It uses the waiting game mechanism many mobile games use where you have to wait for periods of time for things to be completed. This means that the game is one that users can play in quick bursts a few minutes a day or over the course of every few hours. However, users can buy “donuts” which is a premium currency that lets users complete things quickly.

I am giving this game a 7/10 because I am not a fan of the show so there is a lot I miss out on in references and jokes, even if I am aware that they are funny. I do have to say the game is also a lot like other city-building games, but it is fun if you are a fan of the show or know about the references from it.

Overall I would recommend this game to fans of The Simpsons or to those who would like to become fans.
