By Derek Krayenhagen—The bow and arrow-carrying vigilante hits the mini screen hard with this action packed show that showcases a lesser-known superhero.
Arrow is the story of Oliver Queen a billionaire playboy who on a boating trip with his father gets shipwrecked on a mysterious island for years all alone, spoiler alert his father dies…just like every other superhero…tragedy occurs. Oliver gets back to his city (Starling) with a black book of names left by his father of people who have “failed their city.” Using this book Oliver goes after these people under a hood and yielding a bow so ipso facto Arrow.
The strength of Arrow is the realistic and dark feel it gives the audience. The audiences of superhero films/series are starting to transition to the more real and more in danger a superhero can be. The whole feel of the show gives the audience the feeling that a main core member of the show could die or get kicked off the show at any time, which keeps things interesting.
The biggest weakness is all the characters. Arrow at first did things by himself then he started to get a cast of characters to help. However, the girls are very similar and are hard to tell apart. Some of the acting is a little spotty or corny even but that is a minimal thing in the big scheme of things.
Overall, I enjoy Arrow and I think fans of superhero shows/movies would enjoy it as well. With a run time of only forty minutes without counting commercials Arrow makes good use of its time and packs a lot of action into such a time threshold. To catch the Arrow in action tune into the CW on Wednesday nights at 7:00; also Arrow is in its third season so to catch up you can see the show on Netflix.
