Television Review: Teen Wolf

tumblr_static_teen-wolf-hd-wallpaperBy Dominique Swanson—Tyler Posey plays Scott McCall, an awkward teenager who unexpectedly gets turned into a werewolf. This television series follows his struggles as he and his friends face the problems his new lifestyle has created.

Teen Wolf began in 2011 and is still running. While entertaining, this series definitely appeals to a more teenage audience, with most of its characters still being in high school and the large focus on young romance.

A huge shortcoming of this show is the cliché it follows of a young teen turning into something supernatural, then facing new enemies all the while trying to win the girl. This series has presented some uncommon supernatural beings, but still holds the trending werewolf as its main character.

Another thing that bring this series down is the cheesy lines and acting of the characters. Sometimes the show tries too hard to be funny and ends up falling short by making the characters seem awkward.

A final critique is the amount of time the camera rests on some scenes. It almost appears like they are trying to fill time with how long they focus in on a headshot or dramatic scene. This contributes to the awkwardness created sometimes.

The redeeming qualities of this show are that it is good paced with something new coming always. Many episodes turn into a guessing game of wondering what will happen next.

The plot is always new and interesting and this helps keep the show from falling into the complete cliché of normal teenage shows.

This series is not highly recommended, but for a younger audience, or someone who enjoys teenage shows, it definitely is something to pass the time.
