Mustangs Extend Streak to 15

softballBy Darius Hicks–The Morningside softball team extend ed its winning streak to 15 with a dominating weekend performance against Concordia, making them the front-runner in the race for the GPAC Conference Title.

The Mustangs remain the only undefeated team in the conference with a 10-0 record and an overall record of 20-6. Concordia is currently second in the conference and three games behind the Mustangs after losing the doubleheader this weekend.

Senior pitcher Jordan Johnson led the Mustangs to their first victory after pitching a seven-inning shut out that resulted in extra innings. She would eventually score the winning run after a homerun in the top of the ninth. The Mustangs would force three outs in the bottom of the ninth, winning 1-0.

“As a senior leader I was doing my best to put my team in a position to win. During extra innings I caught the rhythm of their pitcher and took advantage of the inside pitch,” said Johnson.

The second game wouldn’t be as dramatic as the Mustangs forced an eight-run rule for an easy 10-2 win.

Morningside will travel to Mitchell South Dakota, for a double header against GPAC opponent Dakota Wesleyan Monday.
