Morningsiders get gleeful

By Tasha Drey ~
The hit Fox television show Glee has made an impact on Morningside. Theater professor Randy Peters recently started Morningside College’s very own Glee club. “The idea came from a few students who expressed an interest in other singing opportunities on campus other than choir,” says Peters.

After talking with the President and Dean and getting the idea approved, a group of 20 volunteer students came together and Glee Club was official.

The club meets once a week to sing and dance with the help of their choreographer, Donny Short, and their pianist, Claire DeRoin. Right now the group is working on musical theater songs. “We’re doing songs from the musicals Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, and Les Miserables”, explained Peters.

Glee Club will perform April 28 in Klinger-Neal Theater along with the Morningside College dance classes. Peters also said some students will even be performing solos.

What does the future of Glee Club have in store? “Next year I would like to try some contemporary and rock songs, which is more like the television show Glee,” Peters informed.
