Study Abroad Students: What are They Up to in Italy?

italyBy Rachel Potter–Morningside College offers many experiences for their students. From free entertainers and activities to a wide range of academic opportunities. One such opportunity is the Study Abroad Program. Every semester Morningside has students studying abroad, from Ireland to Italy to Spain. This semester, we have 15 students and 2 teachers studying in Italy.

From time to time, the CR will check in with our students having the time of their lives and, hopefully, studying.

Their first week in Italy was spent exploring the gorgeous streets of Rome. While in Rome they visited the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Vatican, the Colosseum and Forum.

“No picture could do just how breath taking these landmarks truly are,” said Jadyn Mohr, one of the students studying in Italy.

After Rome, they moved to Ortigia, where they will be living for the semester. Ortigia is a tiny island with a circumference of just under 2 miles. It is located next to the island of Syracuse.

Now that the students are settled in Ortigia, they have started their classes. They are all take around 16 credits while studying in Italy. The credits the students take in Italy will count toward their Morningside credit requirements.

Don’t worry– the students are not spending all of their time in a classroom and missing out on experiences being in another country offer. They are only in class Monday through Thursday, typically spending about four hours in the classroom daily. This means they get a three-day weekend every single week!
