By Taylor Pluim–Heavy Weights is a movie about a boy named Gerry who gets pressured by his parents to go to a camp for overweight boys. He thinks it sounds terrible at first, but after seeing the promotional camp video, he changes his mind and thinks it looks like fun. Him and all the other camp goers are in for a surprise though.
Shortly after arriving at camp, the owners announce that they have sold the camp and they will be under new management. The new owner, Ben Stiller, is a bit more than what the boys bargained for. Stiller wants to sell infomercials by getting the boys to lose weight and proving that his program works. However, the boys aren’t exactly okay with his workout program and fight back and reveal his cruelty to their parents when they come to visit. This ends the cruelty and the boys end up getting to enjoy the rest of their summer at camp under a current worker who becomes manager.
This movie is definitely made for a younger age group. But if you enjoy movies like the Benchwarmers then you might enjoy this one as well. It is a good family movie and good if you like clean humor. A lot of laughs come from laughing at the boys’ physical condition. It might seem a little mean but the boys in the movies know how to laugh at themselves which helps you to feel more comfortable laughing at them as well. Ben Stiller and his crew do a good job at seeming like they don’t belong working at this camp, which gives the movie a good controversy. Overall the movie is pretty good, and is worth watching and getting a laugh out of.
