The company tested the idea in 2010 at a Seattle store, and then tried it in 25 other locations in 2012. Starbucks noticed a definite sales increase during that particular time of day. The new menu works best in urban areas near other restaurants and theaters.
Nancy Seeman said, “The idea is definitely innovative and can help increase profits in the evening. However, it would only work in a sit-down restaurant format. Ordering wine in the drive-thru might not be a great idea.”
Lexi Busch said, “This new menu is definitely redefining the Starbucks brand and how consumers perceive the restaurant, which isn’t necessarily a good thing.”
Personally I think the idea is unique, and could help accomplish Starbuck’s long-term sales goals. However, the launch will take several years.
