By Amber Burg–Amble on down to Eppley to see the new Morningside Gallery art show of Sophomore Reviews.
The Morningside Art Gallery presents art of all media created by sophomores for their reviews. Two groups of seven sophomore’s artwork are being featured in the art gallery this month. The first show started January 13 and ran to the 17th. The last group started January 20 and will be up until the 24th.
The following artists participated in the first show: Amber Burg, Jenny Fleming, Anna Hart, Taylor Mahin, Mercedes Liparoto, Allison McNeil and Jamie Byrnes. The second features Ali Bachman, Nicole Loe, Marcos Pichinte, Sean O’Reilly, Claire May-Patterson, Laure Tomjack and TyAnn Budenhagen.
A Sophomore Review is made up of ten pieces of art of the artist’s choice. The work is supposed to show six qualities: creativity, personal style, control of materials, skill, and use of design. The ten pieces represent the classes they have taken at Morningside and their skills as they progress. The student under review meets with two of the four art Professors who critique the work. They give feedback of their likes and dislikes and ideas of what to try in the future back to the students during their meeting.
Jamie Byrnes, featured in the first showcase, said, “It helps you understand what they are looking for when you become a senior and how to prepare for your senior show.”
The Morningside Art Gallery is located in Eppley and is open during the week. An art gallery attendant is at the gallery desk from one P.M. to five P.M. Monday through Friday. Visitors are always welcome to come and view the pieces on display.
