Logan Gerdes will be performing his senior vocal recital in Eppley Auditorium, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Gerdes’ pieces were selected through various lessons with Shannon Salyards Burton, and he enjoys the opening piece of his recital in particular for the creative liberty he’s allowed at certain sections of the song. “I like how it feels in my voice and am confident when singing it. The way it’s set up I’m allowed to do embellishments,” he said.
Asked about his experience with the Morningside music department he said it’s been “greatly positive. Even though the department has gone through a few changes in the past few years, it’s been going pretty well. Choir of course has been getting awards left and right.”
Gerdes is a member of all three ensembles on campus: Morningside Choir, Morningside Wind Ensemble, and M Avenue Jazz. Gerdes expressed gratitude to Dr. Ryan Person for inspiring him throughout his higher education, and to Assistant Professor Burton for helping him hone his abilities as a performer. “I’m very grateful for all the opportunities the music department has been able to give me,” he said.
