Jadyn Steffen- As Morningside University’s graduation is right around the corner, May 14th to be exact, Seniors are anxiously preparing for the future plans and careers. Many have found opportunities in the Siouxland Community and others have expanded their horizons to further locations and possibilities.
Senior Carly Howrey is staying local as she has found a job at Downtown Partners in Sioux City. Carly is a 2022 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Her one piece of advice to underclassmen would be, “Be intentional. Go to class to get something out of it. Go to the football games, the soccer games, everything. You’re only a student once.”
Senior McKenna Nielsen found a job in Ames, Iowa at Mary Greeley Medical Center. McKenna is a 2022 graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Her one piece of advice for underclassmen would be, “To be open-minded in class and in the outside world. There is so much you can learn from listening to others.”
Senior Sharon Bassette, better known as Shar, also found a local opportunity at Ho-Chunk Inc. Sioux City, Iowa where she will be interning. Shar is a 2022 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a Pre-Law Emphasis and Minors in Legal Studies and Psychology. Her one piece of advice for underclassmen would be,”Try new things. Join a club that doesn’t relate to your major or a “just for fun club” like swing dancing, knitting, or anything like that. College is supposed to be fun, but it will only be what you make of it. Study hard, but be sure to make lots of memories too.”
Senior Jessie Phipps is going to be teaching TK-3rd grade Special Education at Alta Elementary and her job is allowing her the opportunity to go on and get her endorsement to work with more severe behaviors. Jessie is a 2022 graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and a K-12 Reading Endorsement. One piece of advice she has for underclassmen is, “Never be afraid to reach out to professors when struggling and it is okay to not know exactly what you want to do or go into right away.”
Senior Kassidy Hart received a job at Beadle Millard Middle School as a 7th grade ELA teacher and co-yearbook advisor. Kassidy is a 2022 graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary English Education with a Minor in Journalism and a Coaching Endorsement. One piece of advice she would give underclassmen is, “Be open to trying new things and taking advantage of new opportunities. I did so many cool things on campus that I couldn’t have even predicted, and were scary at first. But they made college a lot more meaningful.”
Morningside has left a permanent mark and an uncountable amount of memories with so many of our graduating seniors that they will have for life, and for that our graduates couldn’t be more thankful.
