Mustang golfers set new team record

Landsmeer Golf Club

by Chloe Krommendyk–Four of the men finished in the top 6 in their most recent tournament in Orange City, IA, at Landsmeer Golf Club on April 16. The win established a new team record of 272 (12 under par).

Senior Sam Storey led the team once again, shooting an impressive 66, 5 under par, landing himself in second place. Close behind him was senior Jonny Douglas, who shot 3 under par, 68. Junior Jackson Sitzmann and senior Xan Milligan both shot 69, 2 under par. Freshman Mason Weeks was not far behind the rest of the team shooting an even 71.

“It was an incredible day in some seriously trying conditions. It was a great confidence builder for the final portion of the GPAC Championship next Friday and Saturday in Vermillion,” said Head Coach Nick Wanderscheid.

The 272 team score was nine strokes ahead of the runner–up in Northwestern College’s Red Raider Cup. But more exciting was the new program record set for one-round tournament play. The team was unaware of this record until after the round, having to double check to make sure it was true.

The team hopes to continue to play at this level as they take on their final two rounds of the 2021-22 season at the GPAC Championships. This will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23 at Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion, SD.
