by Chloe Krommendyk–The Morningside Men’s golf team along with head coach Nick Wandersheid had a great tournament this past weekend in Crete, Nebraska for the Doane Spring Invitational. The men ended the two-day tournament with a 24-stroke lead over Hastings.
The three players from England: Sam Storey, Xan Milligan, and Jonny Douglas led the Mustangs to this win. Sam Storey added his fourth first place medal of the 2021-22 season. He ended the weekend with an impressive score of 143. Right behind him was Milligan in second place with a 149, and Douglas tied for 3rdwith a 150.
Also taking part in this tournament of 55 players were senior Aaron Robinson (14th place), freshman Mason Weeks (tied for 15th), and junior Jackson Sitzmann (tied for 21st).
Robinson said that “despite the sub-par weather, the course played well, and the team as a whole played very well.”
The team recently moved up in the national poll, ranking them at number 11. The Mustangs now look forward to continuing their season. They plan to compete in back-to-back competitions on Wednesday, April 6 at the Midland University Invitational, and again on April 7-9 at the Lawrence Tech Invitational at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
