by Caleb Lubbers–Nearing the halfway point of the semester, students are feeling the need for some time off.
This year, spring break begins after the last class ends Friday, March 4, and classes will resume on March 14, giving students an entire week off from schoolwork
Jacob Martin, a freshman, plans to head down to Stella, Missouri, to go fishing for trout and explore some caves.
“Fishing is such a relaxing activity, and I’m glad I get to go somewhere warm and enjoy the activity I love, too,” Martin said.
Going even further south than Missouri, Logan Feige, a sophomore, is heading to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip with the Morningside football team.
“This is a really cool opportunity that I get to be a part of. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something special. I get to be a part of something bigger than myself,” said Feige.
Others didn’t make any big travel plans and instead are heading back home.
John Groetken, a freshman, is going back to his hometown of Moville, Iowa.
“Thankfully, I’m going to enjoy my week off at home and hang out with friends and family,” Groetken said.
Some students aren’t lucky enough to get any time off during spring break. Kelsey Toomey, a senior, is currently student teaching at Sergeant Bluff-Luton Middle School.
“Although all of my friends get to go home, I’m excited to be able to continue positively affecting the lives of my students,” said Toomey.
Faith Laskie, a junior, is staying on campus to complete her education practicum, which are observations in the school setting that education majors have to complete. Laskie is also an RA in the Plex.
Laskie gave a piece of advice for people who are able to enjoy their spring break doing what they want: don’t take it for granted.
