The long ball kept College of the Ozarks close, temporarily, but once Morningside established its inside game, the Bobcats wilted.
The Mustangs easily picked up the first round NAIA National Tournament contest 99-58. Next up is Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday morning in Sioux Falls’ Sanford Pentagon.
Note: The NAIA has announced only immediate family and official personnel will be allowed into the arena.
Morningside began to pull away midway through the first half and led 42-30 at the half. The lead blossomed to 20 in the second half before the Bobcats put together a 10-0 run. The surge was short-lived, however, and the Mustangs cruised to the buzzer.
All 15 Mustangs saw playing time; 13 put points in the scoring column.
Senior center Tyler Borchers led M’side with 18 points. Junior center Trey Brown followed with 14 and seven rebounds. Two Bobcats fouled out trying to stop them inside.
Zach Imig had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Guards Will Pottebaum and Alex Borchers finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.
