by Abby Koch–Morningside swim team is hosting their first ever Mustang Relays fundraiser event this Friday at 7PM. The relays is an opportunity for students to prove their speed in the water and help the team with expenses.
The swim team’s goal, with both individual and team relays, is to see who is the fastest on campus. The team wants to challenge other sports to compete in the four-person team 200 freestyle relay, a down and back lap per person. Individuals can compete in a 50 free competition and a breath holding contest.
Mustang Relays has a small fee to participate. The four-person team relay costs $10 per team, which is $2.50 per person. Individual relays costs $5.
“Anyone can participate for the individual competitions like students, faculty, and coaches. The [team] relays are for any athletes or coaches” explained swim captain Grace Nordquist.
Winners of the relays can earn a variety of prizes. Some of the prizes are free wings at Buffalo Wild Wings, a free meal from Chick-Fil-A, and many more.
All of the funds will be put towards things for the team, like traveling expenses, according to Nordquist. “We’re a growing team, which is awesome, but that also means our expenses increase. We could really use the money from this and our other fundraiser to help support us,” explained Nordquist.
