This article from the New York Times talks about President Obama’s plan to promote college affordability on his trip to Michigan. Obama will be visiting a community college and unveil his $60 billion plan which would make community college free for qualified students. He said that “every American-no matter where they grew up or how much money their parents have-deserves a quality education and a shot at success, then we can build a future as remarkable as our past”.
The article is very newsworthy because it is coming from the President which affects every U.S. citizen. It especially would affect lower income, college aged students. The writer does a good job of starting off with a solid lead as he talks about Obama’s presidency coming to an end, along with trying to face a Republican Congress which is in no mood to cooperate. The article is just previewing what Obama plans so it would be interesting to hear how the event goes and how his trip to Michigan is accepted. The article somewhat suggests that his idea is not likely to pass. This is not the best job of objectivity even if it is realistic.
