News Comment #4

This news comment comes from the Associated Press.

Jerome Powell, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve gave a press conference on Wednesday regarding the Federal Reserve’s response to High Inflation. The Reserve is hoping to get us back on track but unfortunately that doesn’t come without High unemployment and other things.

Its looking as if we could end up in a recession but the reserve is hoping to get us back on track.

We all including college students have seen the effects of high inflation, high gas prices, high interest rates, among other things. This affects us all and hopefully we can end up in the right place and everything will be ok but the Federal Reserve is is letting us know where me end up and that’s scary.

News Comment #3

This news arise comes from the Associated Press.

Virginia Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has agreed to be questioned by the House January 6 Panel. The January 6th panel has been trying to question Thomas for a few month,

The reasoning for her questioning comes from text that have arose over the 2020 Election storming of the United States Capitol. The text messages that arose were between Virginia Thomas and Chief of Staff tot he President, Mark Meadows.

The January 6th Committee is going to be wrapping up their investigation and they will sending out and official report of the findings of the Committee. Virginias questioning will be playing a key part in this report.

This is truly important because this report could be key evidence to finding out what actually happened that day. The 2020 election was surrounded by the idea of voter fraud and this panel is the key element to resorting the integrity of out elections and voting int he United States and hopefully reinstating that faith in our elections.

President Biden offering hope for Cancer Patients

With cancer becoming an issue in many people lives and issue that can be very emotional for a lot of people and families President Joe Biden is offering some hope for families affected by this terrible disease, mine included. President Biden is making history with a speech being called “Cancer Moonshot” according to The Washington Post (Wagner and Alfaro Washington Post).

On Monday September 12, 2022, President Biden stood Infront of a podium at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston and announce his initiative to end cancer “as we know it” according to the Associated Press (Miller and Johnston, Associated Press).

Biden, shaping his announcement in a way that President Kennedy did to announce going to moon and developing a “national purpose” according to the Associated Press (Miller, Johnston, Associated Press). President Biden hopes to cut 50% of cancer related deaths over the next 25 years according to the Associated Press (Miller and Johnston, Associated Press). Again with this statement President Biden is offering hope to families and I truly believe that Biden is going to stick to his promise considering his personal ramifications to cancer.

President Biden had this to say about his goal “bold, ambitious, and I might add, completely doable” according to the Associated Press (Miller and Johnston, Associated Press). Biden is completely willing to do whatever it takes to fight cancer and get this fight started to end this terrible disease. According to The Washington Post President Biden said “Beating cancer is something we can do together. And that’s why I’m here.” (Wagner and Alfaro, Washington Post). President Biden is offering hope for families on both sides of the isle making cancer research and treatment that is effective to saving people’s lives.

To lead the initiative President Biden has appointed Dr. Renee Wegrzyn to lead the fight according to the New York Times (Stolberg, New York Times).

President Biden has a personal connection to cancer research since his son Beau Biden, and Friend, Former Senator Ted Kennedy died of cancer according to the New York Times (Stolberg, New York Times).

According to the New York Times Joe Biden issued an Executive Order that would establish an Initiative to work on Biotechnology and Manufacturing in the United States (Stolberg, New York Times).

This issue is truly something that everyone can get behind and support especially when it affects so many Americans. This issue is not partisan, and I think that’s what this country needs right now, especially in this current political climate and I think people are having a hard time realizing that we can do this together. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens in the future with this issue affecting so many families.

Arson at Chicago’s Northfolk Downs Race Track day before opening season

A fire at Northfolk Downs Race Track’s Horse Barn in Chicago burnt down at 4 o’clock this morning, just a day before the opening season. The Barn was occupied by 25 Race Horses, 15 of which are dead, and 12 escaped the building with two of the 12 on fire. The barn is a complete loss with only charred wood pieces left.

A jockey, Albert Ramos, Miami, FL, watched workers as they cleaned up the area. “That’s my best friends,” he said, pointing to the surviving horses. “I love horses more than I do people. I feel like I want to cry.”

Officials have hinted that arson is the suspected cause of the fire. Officials had this to say…

Dan Bucci the Assistant General Manager of the track was able to give us this statement: “It could have been of an incendiary nature because it started in the middle of the barn, not at the end. The only heaters and electrical outlets were in the tack rooms at the ends of the barns.”

Fire Chief Jim Connery had this to say about the incident: “The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious.”

We will keep updates as the story unfolds.

News Comment #2

This news comment comes from the Associate Press on the subject of abortion. South Carolina Republicans, are budding heads as they try to find a resolution on abortion. The debate for this bill has been sparked by the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade. Since the overturning, it has sparked political debates on both sides of the aisle. It has brought hope and light for the right and sadness and darkness for the left side.

The article talks about how the republicans in the senate are fighting for a bill that would ban abortions in the State of South Carolina. Conservatives are facing two points of view, people who want to ban it completely and conservatives who want to protect the rights of those who were raped and suffered incest.

This debate is important because you are seeing more moderate republican views on abortion come to light in red states like South Carolina. That can influence the political landscape as we see both parties on the right and left swing further to their perspective side leaving moderates with nowhere to fit in.

People have been impacted by this issue in many states. From a political perspective this story leaves more moderate and liberal republicans to see that there are more people like them out there who believe that there should be exceptions for abortion.

The way this turns out is going to be interesting to see and also see how it goes over in the state of South Carolina and the United States.

News Comment
