Midland Zoo has some sad news to announce. Homer the Polar Bear has died.

Homer a 16 year old Polar Bear here at Midland Zoo and was the oldest Polar Bear at the zoo.

At 7 am this morning Homer was found floating in the exhibit pool and was unresponsive. The two other Polar Bears in the exhibit Yukon and Mckenzie were removed form the exhibit but are doing ok.

The Zoos director, Chris Bacon has indicated that and investigation will be held about the incident. He said “We will do everything in our power to determine how this bear died. Animal welfare and the preservation of species are our primary goals here at the zoo.” said Chris Bacon.

Polar Bears have and continue to thrive at our zoo. They have since 1985. The uniques exhibit here at Midland Zoo allow the Polar Bears to thrive in an environment and do activated like snow, hunting trout, and digging, and playing in the chilled pool.

Here at Midland Zoo we are immensely upset about the passing of Homer and more info will be released at a later date.
