We have some heart breaking news coming from Midland Zoo today. We are sad to announce the passing of Homer the Bear.

Homer the bear has been a longtime resident of the zoo and is the oldest living bear at the zoo with an age of 16 years.

Homer was found around 7 am this morning unresponsive floating in the pool in the exhibit. The two other Polar Bears Yukon and Mckenzie were removed from the exhibit and are bing watched by Veterinary Staff. They are doing good.

Chris Bacon the Director of the zoo has this to say “We will do everything in our power to determine how this bear died. Animal welfare and the preservation of species are our primary goals here at the zoo.”

The zoo is very saddened by the passing of Homer citing “Homer was a very curious and playful bear and we will miss him terribly.”
