Big Ten football is back, but with what cost?

Earlier Wednesday morning, the Big Ten conference leaders reversed the call that the season was cancelled. From the conference cancelling the season on August 11th, to a reopening is some what of a shock for some people.

Many team in the Big Ten conference have experienced a spike in cover cases since students arrived on campus. In Michigan, all fraternities and sororities were placed in isolation because of a major spike. Wisconsin cancelled in-person learning as 20% of students contracted the virus. the list can go on to a few other schools in the conference.

So with the going on, how is it okay to play football again? The committee after the decision in a press conference stated “In order to bring back football, we have tremendously improved our rapid testing for our athletes and coaches, and we have looked into the research of heart inflammation due to the virus”.

Rapid testing is required everyday for athletes and athletes are required to go under a cardiac M.R.I. exam. Is this enough though? Rapid testing has been discovered to give a lot of false positives and the accuracy is not as high as a regular test. This adds for concern for players as rapid testing isn’t as likely to prevent an outbreak like it seems it could.

The big Ten football season is underway next month, but with school COVID cases on the rise, it will be interesting to see how to separation of athletes and the community falls into place.

The audience is pretty much everyone involved or interesting in college sports, particularly people involved with college football or the Big Ten.

The lead in this article isn’t very good, he does talk about the return but he more talks about how the big ten is stupid, very opinionated article I feel. His point of view is that the conference made a big mistake and how college football seems to be more important than essential jobs? I don’t know man.

It’s not an article for a football junkie, this article is missing top conference favorites and due dates for the first game and who plays who and all that stuff a football fan would want to know.

  1. This story would fall under the category of “analysis,” which
means opinion is going to be OK. I don’t care much for the
lead because I had to read two long paragraphs just to get
to his main point. The story does have a subhead at the top
that would answer most people’s questions.
