Cooking for one: Food in a mug

UtensilsBy Diane Nguyen–Cooking for one is hard because you never know how much to make and you normally end up with more than you can eat. Leftovers are okay. Just not when you have enough left overs of the same meal three days straight. To help you with cooking for yourself here are some foods to cook in a mug.

For breakfast go for an omelet, takes two minutes and if you’re still hungry you can make another in just two minutes! You’ll need: 2 to 3 eggs, meat, salsa, shredded cheese, cooking spray, salt and pepper, and most importantly a mug.

Now, I didn’t give you a specific amount for the other ingredients because you can eyeball and add however much you like to the omelet. The only thing you need to be specific about are the eggs because if you put too much egg in it’ll begin to spill out of the mug!

Directions: crack eggs into mug, add ingredients, and stir together. Microwave for one minute. Take the mug out and stir the mixture up again breaking any large chunks. Back in the microwave until the eggs are set, another minute or 45 seconds.

Take out and enjoy!

Lunchtime, go with making your own mac and cheese in a mug rather than the EasyMac. You’ll need pasta, water, milk, and shredded cheese. This is a meal you can eyeball and just adjust accordingly.

Directions: Start with putting the noodles in the mug and put enough water in the mug to cover the noodles. Warning! When you put this in the microwave the water will over flow. So if you don’t want it to over flow get a bigger bowl or make the noodles in small quantities. Microwave for two minutes and stir. Repeat this until the noodles are tender, about four minutes and if they still aren’t done to your liking add another minute after. Once the noodles are finished drain the excess water add a splash of milk and stir in the cheese. Add as much cheese as you’d like and make sure all of the noodles are covered in cheese. Enjoy!

A taco in a mug is a perfect snack for after school. You’ll need ground beef, salsa, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, and tortilla chips. Put as much ground beef you’d like into the mug and cook it in the microwave. Once the meet is done add your desired toppings and mix everything together. Then you are ready to eat. If you don’t want to dip your chips in the mug, crush up the chips and mix in the mug and you’ll be good to go!

Skipping dinner and going straight to the dessert try a brownie in a mug.

This recipe has to be more specific because baking is more precise then cooking. Starting with 2 tablespoons of butter, ½ teaspoon of vanilla, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, 1/8 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon baking powder, and 3 tablespoons chocolate chips. To start first you’ll want to melt the butter then mix together the vanilla, egg, and sugar until they are well combined. Adding in the rest of the ingredients flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder. Mix well and last add in the chocolate chips. Now start microwaving the brownie in a mug, one minute at a time, until finished.

If you want peanut butter brownies follow this link and you’ll get the same recipe but with peanut butter!
