Eight Things College Students can do during Summer 2015

By Jordan Heim—It is once again that time of the year for college students across the country. The stress of final tests and projects is over and the car is packed full of all the contents of a small dorm room. Students are on their ways back home, but for many students they don’t know what to do with their newfound freedom. It is good for students to find a healthy balance of what to do. Here is a list of eight things college students should do over the summer.

It is important during the summer for students to still actively be building their resume. They can do this with a part-time summer job or an internship. Learn a new skill to help expand their proficiency. An internship is especially important for students going into their junior or senior year. This will help to make students more marketable for future employers, which will benefit them in the long run.

Reading a book, or two or three. You have just spent the year stressing over homework but now you don’t have that stress in your life. Kick back and relax with a good book stress free.

So it’s a beautiful day outside, the sun is shining. Stay inside in air-conditioning watching Netflix. Catch up on your favorite show or find a new favorite! Season three of Orange is the New Black comes out on June 12. It would only take you 15 days and 12 hours to watch Doctor Who nonstop or 6 days and 16 hours to watch Grey’s Anatomy nonstop.

You have just been inside for a week watching the television its time to get fresh air. Go for a walk in the neighbor or a bike ride. If you are feeling adventurous maybe go camping or buy a hammock. I would recommend camping, s’mores and roast Starburst!

It is the summer, you have the freedom to be adventurous and try new things. Maybe try a new restaurant or new class at the gym. It could be scary to try new foods or to put yourself out there to try aqua Zumba.

Go to a museum or anywhere else you can see some art, science, history or anything else that you find interesting.

I have already mentioned a camping trip, but why not take it one step further and plan a trip? The world is yours and sure you’re a poor college student, but you can still plan a fun trip on a budget. Summer is full of free music festivals and county and state fairs.
