Running back Brandon Wegher had a breakāout day against the Bears of Rocky Mountain College, moving Morningside into a second round NAIA playoff game against Baker University of Kansas.
Morningside, 10-1, ripped the Battlin’ Bears for 34 points in the first half en route to a 40-21 win. RMC came in ranked 10th and sporting an 8-3 record.
Baker, champions of the Heart of America Conference, topped newcomer Sterling 10-7 in the first round. The Wildcats are 11-1 and ranked 4th. Morningside is ranked 5th in the NAIA.
Wegher racked up 277 yards and two touchdowns on a sunny but cold Saturday afternoon. Morningside had 685 total yards. QB Ryan Kasdorf was 20 of 32 for 338 yards. and two touchdowns. Kyle Schuck was on the receiving end of both scoring strikes and had 162 yards.
Aaron Roberg had 9 tackles and was named defensive player of the game. Zac Schlueger had 8 tackles.
