Osama bin Laden killed

by Jordan Ogren–
Justice was served Monday when reports that 9/11 mastermind, Osama bin Laden, was killed by a small task force of U.S. Navy Seals in a firefight at a secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Bin Laden had been in hiding for nearly ten years.

Five people were killed in the firefight, including bin Laden and one of his sons. Bin Laden’s compound was located just forty miles north of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad in a city that hosts a Pakistani military base and military academy. This should be a red flag for U.S. officials.

How could one of the world’s most-wanted terrorists not be found hiding within 1,000 yards of a Pakistani military academy? Either the Pakistani government and military really were oblivious of bin Laden’s whereabouts, which is unlikely, or they knew where bin Laden was hiding and kept it a secret from the United States.

“Our cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden,” President Obama said Monday night.

Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, said Monday that it was “inconceivable” that bin Laden did not have support from the Pakistani military in order to stay in hiding right under their noses.

Required by Islamic law, bin Laden was reportedly buried at sea within 24 hours of his death. The ceremony was conducted on the deck of a U.S. aircraft carrier due to the fact that there was no land alternative.

The friends and families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks can finally feel a sense of closure knowing that the culprit of the plot has been killed in return.

However coincidental, Osama bin Laden was announced dead on the 1st of May, the same day in history as the death of Adolf Hitler.
