Hello!

Welcome to Eating Out with a Designer. I’m Jess Anderson and I’m currently a Junior studying Graphic Design and Advertising at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. This is a blog featuring a food and dining critique for local Sioux City restaurants that will be visited over the next few weeks for my May Term class, Eating Siouxland.

As a graphic designer, I have a unique perspective of things wherever I may go. Instead of just enjoying a meal, I tend to spend half of the time critiquing and observing the restaurants branding and identity, as well as their menu and aesthetics of the restaurant. I’m a visual person, what can I say. Most of the time, I tend to keep this information to myself, but for this, I’m going to share with you some of the things that goes through my head as I enjoy a meal.

After eating at each restaurant, I do an hour (or so) doodling session for my own take on a logo for the restaurant. I do this just as a creativity exercise to keep me thinking about design on a regular basis. They are all done for personal use and not a ton of time is poured into them, they’re just ideas I have.
